Why did the Egyptian civilization thrive like it did?

Peasants and persuasive writing.

Guided notes.

Students will compose letters to Pharaoh about whether they think the rules of the harvest are fair or not.

Formative: Rubric will be used to assess student writing on: use of proper mechanics, introductory sentence, concluding sentence, persuasive language, and use of information from the text.

 Persuasive writing

Students will use the persuasive essay they composed on Monday to try to convince the Pharaoh to either change the laws about harvest or keep them the same.

 

 Formative: Rubric on public speaking (focusing on volume, eye contact, use of writing, emotion, etc.)

WebQuest

Students will work their way through an ancient Egyptian WebQuest in order to create a travel brochure to ancient Egypt.

 

 

 

 

Formative:

I will be walking around helping those students who need help or who have questions.

WebQuest Continued

Students will finish working on their travel brochures to ancient Egypt.  With ten minutes left of class students will share their brochures if they want to.

 

 

  

 

Summative: I will be grading the students’ brochures based on the WebQuest using a rubric.

Unit Test

Testing skills, reading graphs, charts, and documents. Students will answer multiple choice, true/false, and short answer questions.

 

 

 Summative: This test will be graded and counted as the final grade of the unit.

No teacher help will be given, other than reading directions and questions to students who need it.
