Environmental factors of human settlement – water, topography, and vegetation.

Locate Egypt on globe, map (numerous projections), and discuss why they think people settled there.

Guided note taking.

Formative: Ticket out the door – labeling map of Egypt and writing two reasons why people settled there.

Environmental factors and the early settlement of Egypt.

Define: delta, fertilization, and papyrus.

Guided note taking using text.

Outline Nile River on map.

 

Formative: Ticket out the door – students will outline the Nile River on map from Monday, and write one way in which the Nile River benefitted Egypt.  *Formal

Thursday

Creating a class map (6’ x 4’) of Egypt and the surrounding areas (including mountains, rivers, and deserts).

Locate Egypt on a map, as well as the physical features of the area.  Transpose that onto a larger scale map – including key, title, and scale.

Formative: Observation as the students are working, asking questions while students are creating map.

Friday

Finishing the class map of Egypt and its physical features.

Locate Egypt on a map, as well as the physical features of the area.  Transpose that onto a larger scale map – including key, title, and scale.

Working cooperatively in a group.

Formative: Rubric assessing student participation, aesthetics of map, accurateness of map, and inclusion of all components (key, title, scale, color).
